Tan Holdings: Adopt-A-Pavilion Cleanup

A team went out Saturday, November 26, 2011 to do the monthly clean-up for the Tan Holdings Adopt-A-Pavilion program. Approximately 225 lbs (or 15 bags) of trash were collected by the group of 25 employees. A breakfast in celebration of October and November birthday celebrants followed right after the clean-up.

Fiesta Resort & Spa and Saipan Grand Hotel Joins JSTA Cleanup Drive

JSTA (Japan Saipan Travel Association) Clean-up Drive is spearheaded by President, Masanori Takahasi. It’s an annual event done every April, in which Fiesta Resort & Spa and Saipan Grand Hotel have participated each year. Members get together to assist and support the association in keeping our islands clean and beautiful not only for our vacation visitors but also for our community. This year, according to Ed Diaz, MVA teamed up with JSTA by providing t-shirts and water station to all participants.


The cleanup site was from Micro beach to Chamolinian Cultural Village along the beach side and town side including side streets and Paseo de Marianas. All trash bags were collected at the end of the clean-up.

CTSI Susupe Clean Up

2010 Environmental Champion award winners CTSI Logistics were out on Saturday, March 26, 2011, working hard at Susupe Park. In just two hours --- 8 am to 10 am --- a total of 21 volunteers collected 95 bags of trash estimated at 3800 lbs!

MVA and NMDOA join in two clean ups in March

MVA along with the NMDOA did its monthly clean up yesterday, March 31, 2011, at the Lau Lau Beach Dive Spot. Total Trash collected was about 40 lbs of trash in Lau Lau and bush cut the area as well.

Daishi Hiroki, Director of NMDOA (Peace Divers Corp), and NMDOA members also did a recent clean up at the Grotto, where 17 people picked up a total 30lbs of trash.

Thank you to the staff at MVA and NMDOA and its members for taking time out of your schedule to help clean up around Saipan. Our home is a better, more beautiful place for both residents and visitors alike, because of your effort and generosity --- THANK YOU!!!

Rob Stewart Cleans Up Saipan

'Sharkwater' director, volunteers conduct Sunday beach cleanup

Rob Stewart, the acclaimed director of the documentary Sharkwater, joined some 30 volunteers during the beach cleanup behind Aquarius Beach Towers in Chalan Kanoa yesterday morning.

The volunteers collected a truckload or about 120 lbs of trash from the beach down by the Sugar Dock and all the way to the Aquarius beach.

Having participated in a recent beach cleanup in Hong Kong, Stewart noted the importance of doing beach cleanups regularly.

“It shows a great sense of care and investment in your land,” Stewart told Saipan Tribune.

4th of July Parade Clean Up - nearly 20,000 lbs of trash!

Getting ready to set off on our second annual post-parade cleanup, a few of the volunteers stop for photo at STaR Water parking lot. Others joined the cleanup along the way making the event a total success! All in all we figure their were about 25 volunteers more than doubling last year's numbers.

Several volunteers set out down the beach path. Keeping garbage out of our lagoon goes a long way towards preventing future marine debris.

And we are off! Everyone is excited to see how many total pounds of trash will be collected along the parade route.



MINA's Kathy Yuknavage is the project manager for a marine debris prevention project. Under her direction, MINA has placed nine recycling and mixed waste bins at a number of Saipan beaches and parks over the last several months. A grant from NOAA provides funding for this project.

Laurie Peterka donated her truck and time to help out again this year passing out over 200 garbage bags, many gloves and hauling a number of bags back to the waste bin at STaR Water.

DEQ staff helped distribute supplies and interacted with parade watchers asking them to help dispose of their trash properly.

DEQ's Max Simian drove one of the two trucks pulling trash collection trailers and helped take full bags of trash from campers.

Both trash trailers were full by the time we finished!

Slowly making our way along the parade route. It was hot, but occassionally we found respite under the trees while still picking up trash.





As we got closer to the end of the parade route, we found more volunteers working well ahead of the trash trailers and supply trucks!





So, how much is 20,000 lbs of trash? It's kind of hard to imagine, but this full bin gives you an idea! The height of the bin is about 5-feet tall and the length is about the same as a big Ford truck.

Joe Kaipat, event organizer, is most pleased with the accomplishment of the day! Trash is now in a bin and headed for proper disposal instead of littering our beaches --- thanks to all the Saipan parade go'ers who did their part to keep our beaches clean and our island beautiful! You did an awesome job and you have contributed to keeping our island healthy...good job!

Special thanks to STaR Water for letting us use their parking lot as our launch point and their neighbors for letting us park a 20,000 lbs disposal bin in their lot. A big thanks too goes out to Artman for donating 200 garbage bags and to Saipan Ice & Water for their donation of water and ice for volunteers!

Liberation Day Parade Clean Up

When: TODAY, July 4th
Where: Meeting at STaR Water parking lot
Time: 11am

What: Beautify CNMI! Volunteers will follow behind the parade to pick up trash

Gloves and bags will be provided. Make sure you put on sunscreen, where a hat and bring some water. We will follow the parade for about 2-hours. Wear your Beautify CNMI! t-shirt (if you have one) or wear your organization's t-shirt to show your spirit! Comfortable shoes are recommended. There is a lot of walking!

All campers were provided with two (2) bags as part of their camping permit and are encouraged to dispose of their trash at the waste bin in front of STaR Water.

We are planning to follow the parade again this year (like we did last year) to pick up trash.

We will likely start near Quarter Master Road on Beach Road. Last year we met up just in front of MegaByte. We met up around noon and finished up around 4pm. DEQ and CRM will be helping organize and put out more details by tomorrow, so check back for more postings and details!

Shirley's June Clean Up

Three cheers for the stewards of Sugar Dock beach area. On Wednesday, June 16th, 21 volunteers participated (Shirley's staff and relatives) in their regular monthly clean up. Volunteers collected 80 lbs. of trash consisting mostly of cans, bottles, plastics and discarded food.

Great job and thank you to the staff and relatives of Shirley's Coffee Shop!

PDM Promoters - taking care of Garapan

15 volunteers from PDM Promoters, Inc & Kinpachi Restaurant spent a couple of hours on Saturday morning bush-cutting the grassy areas along Coral Tree avenue and collected 780 lbs of trash.
