Fiesta Resort & Spa: Makaka Beach Clean-up

On Dec 17th, 40 volunteers collected 20 bags weighing approximately 100 lbs. This is our last, but not the least, beach clean-up for the year 2011. The clean-up was followed by calisthenics lead by our S&R lifeguards and a healthy breakfast at the cafeteria.

Tan Holdings: Susupe Beach Park Tree Planting

Sharing with you are the pictures from our recently concluded “1st Tree Planting” initiative of Tan Holdings at the Susupe Beach Park. A group of 50 executives and key managers went out early in the morning of Saturday, Dec 10, 2011 to join and participate in this worthy activity. More tree planting activities are set for 2012 as we continue our commitment to share our time in preserving our mother earth.

Tan Holdings: Adopt-A-Pavilion Cleanup

A team went out Saturday, November 26, 2011 to do the monthly clean-up for the Tan Holdings Adopt-A-Pavilion program. Approximately 225 lbs (or 15 bags) of trash were collected by the group of 25 employees. A breakfast in celebration of October and November birthday celebrants followed right after the clean-up.

On September 17, 2011, the staff and management of Saipan Grand Hotel participated in the early morning hours at around 8:30 am by commencing with the clean up from Saipan Grand Hotel towards the traffic light by cleaning on both side of the main highway with a total of 22 participants with additional 5 kids. Once at the traffic section, the cleaning proceeded towards the Sugar Dock and then headed North on the shoreline towards Saipan Grand Hotel.

The clean up took about one hour and 30 minutes with a total of approximately between 150 to 200 lbs of trashes collected. The trashes were piled at the South side of the hotel and CRM staff failed to pick up the trashes after they were informed through the application form. Pictures of the trashes were provided to CRM for their reference and also they were informed that they failed to pick up the trashes. After a week, our Engineering disposed the trashes.

Joining in International Coastal Clean Up Day, 35 volunteers cleaned Makaka beach and a part of Beach Road and collected 35 bags of trash weighing approximately 175 lbs. We also did our usual calisthenics and enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast courtesy of Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan.

The Adopt-A-Pavilion team of 26 covered the coastal/shorelines of 13 Fishermen to Garapan Fishing base and were able to gather a total of 20 bags or approximately 100 lbs of trash. A September birthday bash followed after the clean-up!

Tan Holdings Adopt-A-Pavilion Initiative Celebrates Its First Birthday!

March 26, 2011, Saturday. The Adopt-A-Pavilion initiative of Tan Holdings just turned one year and is looking forward to a continuing commitment to be an environmental stewards through their own initiatives and participation in various island-wide environmental projects and programs.

A total of 30 volunteers from L&T Group of Companies, Century Insurance, and Saipan Tribune participated in the clean-up drive and collected a truckload of about 420 lbs or 34 bags of trash from the pavilion in front of JP Center all the way to the 13th Fishermen's Memorial.

Group of Tan Holdings Companies Give Back to Our Community

Companies stationed at JP Center (Saipan Tribune, L&T, CIC & Tan Holdings Support Team) gathered again for the 6th Adopt-A-Pavilion activity and to hold the month of August's birthday bash.

A total of 33 volunteers showed up as early as 6:30 a.m. and collected about 35 bags or approximately 536 kilos of trash from the coastal area/shorelines at the back of TSL Plaza, McDonald's, and Office of the Personnel Management on Saturday, August 28. To date, the team has already collected an estimated 125 bags or 1,868 kilos of trash since it started the project in March of this year.

Cecil Ramores of Tan Holdings said "We are committed to giving back to our community and look forward to continuing our drive through our monthly clean ups and pavilion rehabilitation project."

CTSI also had their regular monthly clean-up the same day at the Susupe Beach Park. The 17 volunteers were able to gather 68 bags or 618 kilos of trash.

5) Graffiti (via telephone report)

ii. Marites and Cinta will be working on a plan to initiate projects in the community
IV. Housekeeping (15 mins)
1) Does anyone have or keep a list of adopted locations?
i. Not renewed since 2008
ii. Some are still continuing responsibility even though there is no formal agreement
iii. Joe’s gonna share that via email
2) Recommend that Tan Holdings enter their events on the BCNMI calendar first then copy to their own so that it will show up on the public calendar
3) Joe is down to last 200 trash bags, no gloves
i. DEQ is not going to supply other govt agencies with supplies
ii. DEQ will assist schools and private groups on a limited basis
iii. Joe is recommending BCNMI buy more supplies
1. Laurie recommending 3 quotes
2. Aric and Joe noted that there is a company in CK that making recycled plastic products and we should support them
3. Bags are slightly more expensive – but the value is bigger in the bigger picture
4) 4th of July end of parade cleanup
i. Joe recommended that Neighborhood Watch group would conduct the clean up; they have decided not to
ii. Unless there is a group willing to take the lead, we may need to table conducting this project again until next year
iii. 2009 event was spontaneous and resulted in an immediately clean Beach Road, post parade, with only a handful of volunteers

Fiesta Resort & Spa joined the 2010 Corporate Challenge along with other company. As part of this event, the teams were asked to improve and enhance some of island’s pavilions. Fiesta Team and G4S Team joined together to clean and paint the #4 pavilion at Paupau Beach on May 26.
